چکیده

The international trade of plants and their products, such as fresh fruits, can facilitate the introduction spread foreign pests diseases. We examined South Africa’s import stone fruits (Prunus spp.) a pathway for introducing Monilinia fructicola (G. Wint.) Endophytic fungi from plums (Prunus domestica) and their antifungal activity against Monilinia fructicola.

Enophytic fungi were isolated from plum (Prunus domestica) leaves, identified with ITS1 and ITS4 primers, and their antagonistic activity was tested against Monilinia fructicola, which causes brown rot, blossom blight, and twig blight of stone fruits, and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, which causes anthracnose on a variety of fruit crops. The production of antifungal compounds was determined ...

Fungicide-induced transposon movement in Monilinia fructicola.

Repeated applications of fungicides with a single mode of action are believed to select for pre-existing resistant strains in a pathogen population, while the impact of sub-lethal doses of such fungicides on sensitive members of the population is unknown. In this study, in vitro evidence is presented that continuous exposure of Monilinia fructicola mycelium to some fungicides can induce genetic...

Teleophthalmology and Vision 2020 in South Africa.

We aimed to determine whether teleophthalmology has a place in the South African health care delivery system and its role in Vision 2020 in South Africa. We used a consensus process to determine its impact on the diagnosis and management of patients seen in a hospital eye clinic. Edendale Hospital, Pietermaritzburg, and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, collaborated in this study involving 90 pa...

Factors Affecting Latent Infection of Prune Fruit by Monilinia fructicola.

ABSTRACT Experiments were conducted in three prune orchards in California. In each orchard, inoculations with Monilinia fructicola, the causal agent of brown rot of stone fruits, were performed on branches of trees at bloom and fruit developmental stages. Five inoculum concentrations were used in each inoculation. Six and four wetness durations were created for each inoculum concentration at bl...

Molecular cloning, characterization, and expression of a redox-responsive cutinase from Monilinia fructicola (Wint.) Honey.

cDNA clones encoding a cutinase expressed in cutin-induced cultures of the plant pathogen Monilinia fructicola were isolated using a protein-based strategy. The largest cDNA (Mfcut1) was found to contain an open reading frame of 603 bp that predicted a 20.2-kDa protein of 201 amino acids with a 20-amino-acid secretory signal peptide and a pI of 8.4. The predicted protein contained cutinase/lipa...
